Proud to Support Series

FFH Proudly partnered with World Mercury Project in 2016.

Update: World Mercury Project is now Children’s Health Defense.

Founded in Malibu, California, World Mercury Project’s mission is to raise public awareness of the dangers and sources of mercury, with the ultimate goal of banning all uses of mercury on a global level. We believe the public is in critical need of accurate information with regard to the sources and dangers of mercury which will allow them to better protect themselves and their families from the potential devastating effects of the potent neurotoxin.

The average person does not know that mercury is the second most toxic element on the planet, nor do they know that it is an incredibly potent toxin even at small exposure levels. Once in the body, mercury has a high affinity for moving into the brain where it can become trapped for decades. Once in the brain, mercury causes a chronic inflammatory process in the tissue which has been connected to autism, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease) and many more adverse health consequences.

Mercury at very low levels of exposure can induce symptoms identical to those of many devastating psychological, neurological and behavioral conditions in children and adults that currently have no known cause. Mercury is known to injure the senses, central nervous system, immune system, gastrointestinal system, kidneys, and to interfere with critical cellular pathways creating widespread havoc throughout the body.

Vaccines such as flu and Tetanus contain 25 mcg of mercury due to the use of the mercury based preservative thimerosal. Over 100 other medical pharmaceutical products including ear, eye and nose drops use mercury based preservatives too. Amalgam fillings are 50% mercury and release mercury vapor every time you chew, brush your teeth or drink something hot. Neither mercury based preservatives like thimerosal or amalgam have been subjected to proven safe by toxicological testing.

Coal fired power plants, also a source of mercury, are being built at an every expanding rate in developing countries. China’s coal consumption is estimated to be a whopping 4 billion tons a year. These plants release mercury into the air and are saturating our entire planet ultimately contaminating our fish, food supply, and every living creature with dangerous levels of mercury. Mercury from coal burning power plants in China reaches the coast of California in just 10 days.

Mercury is also commonly used in fluorescent lighting. If a fluorescent light bulb breaks in a home it must be cleaned up very carefully following EPA guidelines to prevent exposure to mercury. These bulbs are gaining in popularity since Congress mandated that incandescent light bulbs be phased out in 2014. Cosmetics, especially creams used for skin lightening have been found to contain high levels of mercury. Despite being banned in the U.S. they are being illegally imported from other countries where their use is more popular.

Most products or industrial operations that use mercury were invented long before we understood the toxicity of mercury on human health and the health of our planet. Now that we are aware of the devastating effects of mercury, it is absolutely reckless to still be using this dangerous neurotoxin. Unfortunately, we have been slow to act to stop these practices.

World Mercury Project is determined to create a world free of the devastating effects of mercury. We plan to accomplish this goal through education, advocacy, and when necessary, litigation. Please join us in our efforts to create a safer and healthier planet that is free of mercury!

I was watching the Winter Olympics. Norway won more medals than any nation. Ten years ago they banned mercury amalgam dental fillings.

Years earlier I wrote:

Dentist Hal Huggins treated Olympic athletes who were using the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. He wrote in his book that Olympic athletes usually did not have any mercury-amalgam fillings, sometimes one or two, seldom more.
